Family Consumer Sciences
| Family and Consumer Sciences | ||
Family and Consumer Sciences is an interdisciplinary program which focuses on real-life issues and skills needed for adolescent and adult roles in society. All of the food courses in the Family and Consumer Sciences program provide nutrition information. This knowledge is essential for every person's health and well being. Diet affects not only a student's mood but their academic performance as well. Studies have shown that students who eat a healthy diet outperform those who do not. As obesity has now become the number one preventable cause of death in the U.S., it is imperative to teach our students from an early age how to prepare healthy foods. In addition, the Family and Consumer Science Department explores issues in parenting, consumer education, basic sewing techniques and interior design while utilizing new technology.
